The National Amyloidosis Centre at the Royal Free Hospital in London was established in 1999 and provides diagnostic imaging (SAP scintigraphy – a technique for identifying amyloid deposits – and specialised echocardiography), histology and DNA analysis, genetic counselling, monitoring of amyloid proteins in the blood, recommendations for treatment, and evaluation of existing and new therapies.
