The collection and analysis of data about burn cases is essential. The analysis of such data can support burn services to deliver better care, better outcomes and better value for money. It is also important to support initiatives that help prevent burn injuries.
The development of the International Burn Injury Database was in response to the National Burn Care Review (2001).
The database aims to capture information about burn injuries severe enough to require assessment or admission to specialised services.
The Informatics sub-group of the National Network for Burn Care oversees the development of the database – the group is chaired by Ken Dunn, Consultant Burn Surgeon.
